Michel Foucault

Philosopher, Professor, Historian, Philologist and Social Theorist

Michel Foucault

Paul-Michel Foucault was the philosopher who deconstructed everything he came across - power, knowledge, madness, prisons, you name it. Born in France in 1926, he started out as a brilliant (and somewhat rebellious) student, until he became one of the most influential thinkers of the 20th century.

In works such as ‘Surveillance and Punishment’ and ‘History of Sexuality’, he showed how institutions shape our behaviour and how power is everywhere, even where we least imagine it. With his iconic bald head and a sharp eye for the workings of society, Foucault became a reference point for anyone who likes to question norms and systems. He died in 1984, but his influence remains strong, especially among those who distrust any absolute truth (see me here) - which, by the way, he would totally approve of.
