Epictetus

Philosopher and Writer

Epicteto

Epictetus was the stoic philosopher who would probably look at his life and say: ‘If you can't control it, then accept it and move on.’ Born around 55 AD in Hierapolis (now in Turkey), he began his journey as a slave - something that already indicated that he wouldn't be fazed by adversity.

After freeing himself, he became one of the greatest masters of Stoic philosophy, preaching that happiness does not depend on external things, but on how we deal with them. His teachings have reached us through his disciples, since he didn't leave anything written down (he probably preferred us to meditate in silence).

If you're lost in life and getting angry about things you can't control, Epictetus has already said everything you need to hear: Control your mind and relax.
